Ken Boothe & Stranger Cole - Arte Bella

Ska has always been able to lift my spirits, there is something about the incessant backbeat, the blend of soul and Caribbean sounds and raw instrumentation that fuse together into a sound that never fails to put a smile on my face.

While I missed the original 60s iteration, I found the next wave via the punk / new wave band of the late 70s and 80s (and later the third wave) and never looked back. Here we have a collection and re-issue from the wonderful Soul Jazz Records putting together a compilation from the famed Studio One record label.

Arte Bella hits all the expected traits of classic ska: strong horns, soul vocals from legend Ken Boothe, syncopated rhythms and an infectious groove. Pure bliss.
