Loma - Black Willow

A recent favourite - Loma - released a new album recently. Which reminded me of one of their songs that made me a fan of the band.

Black Willow is a sinewy and chilly track that feels expansive as the vocals intertwine. Ethereal folk with an undercurrent of moody, atmospheric rock. Emily Cross’s voice is haunting, whispering through the verses like a ghostly presence, while the production wraps around it like a dense fog. The instrumentation is lush yet sparse, every note feeling carefully chosen, every silence just as deliberate. It’s a song that creeps up on you, sinking its roots deep into your subconscious, much like the titular willow it’s named after.

Imagine Nick Cave meets David Bowie meets Cat Power.

The song never rushes, taking its time to envelop you in its mysterious embrace, pulling you into a world where every shadow holds a secret, every rustle of leaves a whispered story. Black Willow isn’t just a song; it’s an experience, a journey into the heart of nature’s darker, more enigmatic side. It’s the perfect soundtrack for those twilight moments when the world feels a little more magical, and a lot more unknown.
