Chase & Status Boiler Room June 2023
As alluded to in Tiny Listens #5, the world of drum and bass, jungle, jump up, breakbeat for the most part didn’t connect with me in my younger years. I found a few releases and artists that found their way into my listening habits, but I never went deep into the genre.
That seems to have changed in the last while. I find myself listening and buying more of it these days. I wouldn’t consider myself a “head”, but I am really enjoying it.
So watching the Chase & Status Boiler Room session from June 2023 it’s hard to feel some level of jealousy for those lucky enough to be there in person.
A chaotic, glorious moment. Sweaty bodies jammed into a compact space, bass reverberating through the walls and skulls. The crowd was hyped (shout out to those fellas in the black shirts behind the DJ bringing the energy), no casual head-bobs; people were losing their minds. One can feel the sweat dripping off the walls.
A reminder of exactly why drum n bass has endured.
